This is the first book in the Disney Villains Series by Serena Valentino. This book focuses on The Evil Queen, and how she eventually turns evil.
The story begins on her wedding day to the King, who is Snow White’s father. At this point, Snow is just a little girl. The new queen builds a loving, motherly relationship with Snow, who she calls her “Little Bird.” (And interesting side note. The new queen’s deceased father was a mirror maker. She did not have a good relationship with him, and he blamed her for the death of her mother, who died in child birth.)
The king often goes onto the battlefield with his men to defend the kingdom. We are then introduced to The Odd Sisters, who are triplet cousins of the king. We discover they are witches.
The Magic Mirror…..the face in the Mirror turns out to be The Queen’s deceased father. And that when asked a certain question (y’all know the question being asked), he cannot tell a lie. So when he tells the Queen she is the fairest of all, its the truth.
Eventually, the day comes that the King is killed in battle. This is where the Queen starts her transformation from good to evil, as she has lost the love of her life, and her grief is so intense. She is so hateful and cruel to everyone, including Snow White. She one day sees the Prince talking to Snow White, and puts an end to it as she sees it as Snow White will get heartbroken one day as she has become, because the Prince will go off to war and be killed in battle. We also see her getting into witchcraft like the Odd Sisters.
Toward the end of the book, it truly turns into the movie, almost verbatim, right down to the meeting of the dwarves. We see that the Mirror has told the Queen that Snow White is indeed the fairest of all.
